AKMU, the brother-sister music duo, is leaving YG Entertainment after 12 years with the company. On the 21st, YG announced that AKMU decided to start a new path after long consideration. The company thanked the duo for creating amazing music and touching many people during their time together.
According to YG, AKMU told Yang Hyun-suk about six months ago that they wanted to leave the company and become independent. Yang expressed his support and encouraged their decision. AKMU first signed with YG after winning the audition program K-pop Star Season 2 in 2013. Since then, they have released many hit songs, including “200%” and “How Can I Love the Heartbreak, You’re the One I Love,” and have built a strong fanbase.
YG added that watching the talented duo grow step by step was a great joy for the company. They said they sincerely support AKMU’s new challenge and future activities.
