Goyang Sono is now just one win away from advancing to the finals after securing another victory against Changwon LG Sakers in Game 2 of the semifinals.
In Game 1, held on April 23 at Changwon Gymnasium, Sono faced a difficult challenge. While this was Sono’s first-ever playoff appearance, LG Sakers were a powerful and experienced team, with two regular-season titles and one overall championship. Sono struggled early, falling behind by 8 points in the first quarter, and the gap widened to 13 points in the second quarter.
However, the momentum shifted in the third quarter. Sono demonstrated strong teamwork and effective ball movement, creating scoring opportunities that led to points. By the end of the third quarter, the score was 46-54. In the fourth quarter, Sono continued to close the gap, and with 2 minutes and 46 seconds remaining, they took the lead at 61-60 after making a free throw. Ultimately, Sono secured the win with a final score of 69-63.
Game 2, played on April 25 at the same venue, was also highly competitive. LG led 21-16 in the first quarter and maintained their advantage with a 43-34 lead at halftime. However, Sono refused to give up. In the third quarter, they narrowed the gap to just one point, making the score 59-60. At the start of the fourth quarter, Sono hit a three-point shot to shift the momentum, and with 7 minutes and 35 seconds remaining, they took the lead at 66-64. Sono eventually won the game 85-76, achieving their second consecutive victory.
Interestingly, Sono fans who attended Game 1 had a unique experience. The Goyang Sono Skygunners provided transportation for 100 fans, even arranging a flight to Gimhae Airport. This allowed fans to travel more comfortably to Changwon Gymnasium.
Many basketball fans believe that Sono’s two consecutive wins were the result of strong support from the club, passionate cheering from fans, and the players’ determination, all combining to create a powerful synergy. Now, many are wondering whether Sono can achieve a third straight win and advance to the championship finals.
