Incheon Airport Expands Shared Bicycle Service to Mark World Bicycle Day

Incheon International Airport Corporation is expanding a shared bicycle service around Korea’s main international gateway, connecting with World Bicycle Day, a United Nations-designated observance held annually on June 3, and in response to the country’s energy-saving strategy. The corporation is partnering with BongMobility, operator of the Ddadong Bicycle bike-sharing program, to extend bicycle pickup and return zones across the airport’s surrounding area.
Since it was previously available only at select docking stations, the service will now allow users to borrow and return bicycles freely at designated locations, including Incheon Airport Terminal 1, Sky Garden, the cargo terminal complex, Airport New Town, and additional places within the service zone. The most significant point is a new rental and return zone at Incheon Airport Cargo on the Airport Railroad Express, connecting Incheon International Airport to central Seoul. The locations were selected because of demand on surveys of the roughly 70000 workers permanently stationed at the airport.
This expansion also reflects Korea’s current energy reduction policies. The corporation said the expansion of bicycle rentals offers airport workers and visitors an alternative and more affordable option compared to cars and taxis. This new service will operate in the upcoming month, after evaluating safety before deciding whether to change to a permanent program.
