Jens Castrop had a disappointing first half in the match against Ghana. According to Sofascore, he recorded 10 turnovers in the first half, the most on the team. He struggled with penetrating passes and creating opportunities with the attackers. The Korean national team mostly passed the ball backwards and managed only one shot during the half.
In the second half, head coach Hong Myung-bo substituted Jens Castrop out and brought on Seo Min-woo. After the substitution, the team performed better and eventually scored a goal.
After the game, Jens Castrop gave an interview about his performance. He expressed disappointment in himself, saying that his performance wasn’t good enough for several reasons. He mentioned that he lost his rhythm because of his red card and the fact that he had not played for a month. Regarding the possibility of being selected for the World Cup squad, Castrop said that the decision is entirely up to coach Hong Myung-bo. He added that he believes he could be selected if he performs well with his club. Castrop has been with the Korean national team for three months, and many Korean soccer fans are expecting him to show his abilities.
