On April 4th, 2026, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC played against Ulsan Hyundai FC in the Jeonju World Cup Stadium. Jeonbuk and Ulsan have shared a strong rivalry for the past few years, as both clubs have been dominating the K League, and both teams are owned by the Hyundai company. Because of this, a lot of fans call it the “Hyundai derby”. This match was very special because it was the 100th time that the Hyundai Derby was being played, and also because both teams are at the top of the league table behind FC Seoul.

This match had very high expectations from the fans since Ulsan had won their past few games in the league and Jeonbuk had won both domestic and national titles in the past year. When the match started, Jeonbuk created more chances than Ulsan in the first few minutes, and in the 9th minute, Jeonbuk’s center back Wi-je Cho stepped up to head a goal from a corner kick. Jeonbuk continued playing the first half with a lot of chances created and also more ball possession. In the second half, Ulsan had created a lot of chances, but they failed to score a goal, and both teams kept on playing with the same amount of ball possession. When the game was getting closer to the end, Jeonbuk launched a counterattack and one of their attackers, Seung-woo Lee, took control of the ball. He dribbled past two of the three defenders in Ulsan’s side and scored a late goal for Jeonbuk. The game ended shortly after the goal was scored, giving Jeonbuk a 2-0 win and 3 points to secure 2nd place in the K League.

This win showed us that Jeonbuk is still as strong as they were in the past season. Winning against a strong and rival team tells us that they might be ready to be this season’s title contenders. Their next match will be against another big rival, FC Seoul. Jeonbuk and FC Seoul have shared a huge rivalry for a lot of years. The reason for this is that both teams had been dominating the league for a long time and that they are backed by big corporations, Hyundai for Jeonbuk and the GS group for Seoul. The game will be played in Seoul World Cup Stadium, where Jeonbuk hasn’t lost a single game against Seoul since July 7th, 2017. This game will be very important for both sides. If Jeonbuk wins, they will be 1 point ahead of Seoul and they will also be in first place. Meanwhile, if Seoul wins, they will be 5 points ahead of Jeonbuk, and they will end Jeonbuk’s record of not losing in Seoul’s stadium for the past 9 years.
