In light of the recent social issues surrounding celebrity drug use, negative perceptions of narcotic painkillers prescribed for the treatment of patients are also increasing. In response, the Korean Pain Association unveiled the "Guidelines for Prescribing Opioid-like Drugs 2023" at an academic conference held for two days on the 18th, referring to guidelines related to opium-like drugs from around the world.
These are behavioral guidelines that doctors can refer to immediately and practically when prescribing opioids. "It is clear that doctors' prescriptions for opioids are increasing," Chairman Lee Pyeong-bok said. "We felt responsible for creating an environment where patients do not suffer so much, as well as preventing medical staff from unnecessary punishment by checking side effects or risk cases with awareness of this." The Pain Association said this guideline will hopefully serve as a starting point for solving the increasing drug problem in our society through safe and appropriate prescriptions for opioids. In fact, Korea is the first country in the world to enact TEN RULES, a prescription for such opioids.
Chairman Park Jun-mo said, "As The Pain Association has no intention of sitting on the opioid problem in the future, a new version of the guideline will be provided to the medical staff when updated."
