Kyungbok High Starts Strong in Spring Tournament Qualifiers

Kyungbok High School made a strong start in the boys’ high school qualifiers round of the Spring Tournament, defeating Jeonju High School 104-49 on March 15 at Haenam Usul Gymnasium.
Kyungbok High showed a powerful offense from the first quarter. The starting lineup consisted of seniors Yoon Jihoon, Song Younghoon, Yoon Jiwon, and Kim Howon, along with sophomore Shin Yubeom. With their strong average height, the team already had a physical advantage. In the first quarter alone, Kyungbok High scored 37 points. Yoon Jihoon and Song Younghoon stood out in particular. They contributed not only through fast breaks but also by maintaining strong teamwork with their passing.
By the end of the third quarter, the score had widened even further to 90-41. In the third quarter, Yoon Jiwon scored the most points and proved himself to be the key player in the offense. He finished the game as the top scorer with 26 points. In addition to Yoon Jihoon, Song Younghoon, and Yoon Jiwon, senior Kim Howon and sophomore Shin Yubeom also showed impressive performances, contributing 10 and 13 points respectively to help secure the team’s victory.
This tournament is the first competition of 2026, marking a fresh start for all teams. Fans expect the tournament to be exciting as they watch new players, new strategies, and different playing styles from their favorite schools. Since it is the first tournament of the year, many people are paying close attention to see who will become the champion. Traditional powerhouses such as Kyungbok High and Yongsan High, as well as rising team Samil High School, are among the favorites, but many are also wondering if a new contender will emerge.
