Paris Saint-Germain are Back to Back Champions League Winners After Winning Arsenal FC

On May 31st, 2026, Arsenal FC and Paris Saint-Germain faced each other in the UEFA Champions League final. After Arsenal beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 on aggregate in the semi finals, and Paris beat Bayern Munich 6-5 on aggregate, both teams qualified to the UEFA Champions League final. Both teams were enjoying successful seasons after winning their domestic league titles. For Paris Saint-Germain, this was their second consecutive UEFA Champions League final. In the previous season, Paris defeated Inter Milan 5–0 in the final, setting the record for the most goals scored by a single team in a Champions League final.
In the opening minutes of the first half, Arsenal took most control of the game and they were pressing high up on the pitch. It only took Arsenal 6 minutes to find their way to score a goal. Arsenal launched a counter attack and their striker Kai Havertz took control of the ball, dribbled from the halfway line to the penalty area, and scored the opening goal. Although the rest of the first half was controlled by Paris, they failed to find an equalizer. In the second half, Paris still continued to put pressure on Arsenal, and in the 65th minute, Paris eventually found their way to equalize the game. One of Paris’s winger Kvaratskhelia was running to the penalty area to get passed the ball but one of Arsenal’s defenders Mosquera fouled him in the penalty spot before he could do anything with the ball, which gave Paris a penalty kick. Ousmane Dembele stepped up to take the penalty kick and Paris equalized the game. The game remained tied until the end of the 2nd half so they had to go to extra time. In both 1st and 2nd half of the extra time, Paris had way more chances and control of the ball compared to Arsenal. However, Paris unfortunately couldn't find a goal to win the game. Since the game was still tied after extra time, it had to be decided by penalty shootouts, giving both sides a last chance to win the game. At the end, Paris won on the Penalty shootouts making them the UEFA Champions League winners for the 2nd time in a row.
Overall, the UEFA Champions League final was an exciting and closely contested match between two outstanding teams. Paris Saint-Germain's victory secured their second consecutive Champions League title, while Arsenal demonstrated why they were worthy finalists. The final attracted a lot of attention because both teams entered the match as domestic league champions. Arsenal won the Premier League for the first time since 2004 after three consecutive second-place finishes, while Paris Saint-Germain won Ligue 1 for the fifth season in a row. Looking forward, both teams will aim to build on their successful seasons and compete for more trophies in the years to come
