The Cooper’s Hill Cheese Rolling, an annual tradition in Brockworth, Gloucestershire, England, takes place on Monday, May 26, 2025. The event typically begins at noon and includes several downhill races. It has been described as the world’s most dangerous and ridiculous race - a 200-yard dash race after rolling the Double Glousester Cheese.
To win this race, participants have to chase the chess down a grassy and high hill and cross the finish line before anyone crosses first. The hill is so steep and bumpy make it at safely, and no guarantee that players will finish safely. Someone has been injured, broken his ankle, and even lost consciousness. According to CNN Sports, they mentioned that people should consider carefully and care about their safety.
Nobody knows the origin of this race and how long people have been chasing cheese wheels on the hill, but it was written about in 1826. It might have started as a ritual to bless the farmer’s crops. Nowadays, even though people do not join this race as a ritual, the locals have tried to preserve the tradition of their village.
Due to the fight to preserve the race, this race has become a representative event in Brockworth. Still now, many participants want to participate in the race. People can get a great opportunity to make unforgettable memories, and get a prize for winning each race is a 7-pound (3kg) wheel of Double Glousester Cheese.
