On June 9th, 2026, the San Antonio Spurs defeated the New York Knicks 115–111 in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. Before the game, the Knicks were leading the series 2–0 after winning the first two games. This made Game 3 very important for the Spurs because losing would put them one game away from elimination. It is also the Spurs' first NBA Finals appearance since 2014, when they won the championship. The Knicks, on the other hand, are trying to win their first NBA title since 1973. Another reason why this game got so much attention was because U.S. President Donald Trump attended the game at Madison Square Garden. His appearance made history because he became the first sitting U.S. president to attend an NBA Finals game.
The Spurs started the game strong and won the first quarter 33–22. In the second quarter, the Knicks fought back and outscored the Spurs 42–24 to take a 64–57 lead at halftime. However, San Antonio did not give up. The Spurs played much better in the third quarter and won it 35–27. They continued to play well in the fourth quarter and held on for a 115–111 victory. Victor Wembanyama had an amazing game with 32 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 blocks. Stephon Castle also helped with 23 points. For the Knicks, Jalen Brunson scored 32 points and OG Anunoby added 28 points, but it was not enough to get the win.
In conclusion, the Spurs earned a huge victory and kept their championship hopes alive. The Knicks still lead the series 2–1, but the Spurs now have momentum going into Game 4. The next game will be very important because San Antonio can tie the series, while New York can move one step closer to winning the championship. The man of the match was Victor Wembanyama because of his outstanding performance on both offense and defense.
