On May 15, Wonju DB Promy shocked the basketball community by hiring Lee Kyoo-sub, the coach of Busan KCC Egis. The move created even greater surprise because it happened only two days after KCC won the championship finals. What made the signing even more remarkable was that, with Lee Kyoo-sub joining the team, DB now has brothers working together in key positions: general manager Lee Heung-sub and head coach Lee Kyoo-sub.

The older brother, Lee Heung-sub, made his professional debut with Daegu Dongyang Orions in 1996. One year later, he transferred to SambO Exers, where he continued his playing career until retiring in 2000. Beginning in 2001, he started working as a sports executive. Starting as an operations staff member for Wonju DB Promy, he eventually rose to the position of general manager.

Meanwhile, Lee Kyoo-sub achieved success as the first overall pick in the 2000 rookie draft and became a member of the Korean national team in 2001. After retiring from the Seoul Samsung Thunders in 2013, he began his coaching career. In 2026, he successfully led KCC to victory in the championship finals as a coach.

A representative from Wonju DB Promy explained that the decision was “part of the club’s plan to operate the team in a more professional manner,” which sparked even more curiosity among fans. After finishing the regular season, many fans are now wondering whether Wonju DB Promy can climb even higher next season.
