South Korean actor Jung Kyung-ho and Choi Soo-young, a member of K-pop group Girls’ Generation (SNSD) and an actress, have ended their 14-year relationship, their agencies confirmed on June 9.
Choi’s agency, SARAM Entertainment, stated that the couple had recently broken up and had decided to remain “good colleagues.” Jung’s agency, Management Allum, also confirmed the breakup but declined to provide further details, citing the actors’ privacy.
The news drew widespread attention because the pair had long been regarded as one of South Korea’s most enduring celebrity couples. They frequently expressed support for each other in interviews and publicly attended events while maintaining their partnership.
Speculation about their breakup began circulating online after fans noticed that the two no longer appeared to follow each other on social media. Soon afterward, multiple Korean media outlets reported that the couple had ended their relationship, and both agencies officially confirmed the news.
According to local reports citing industry sources, the couple’s increasingly demanding schedules played a role in their decision. Jung is currently busy filming the upcoming ENA drama, while Choi has been balancing acting projects with activities in both South Korea and Japan. Their busy careers reportedly left them with less time together, leading them to naturally drift apart.
Jung and Choi first developed a relationship in 2012 after meeting through church and shared connections as alumni of Chung-Ang University’s Department of Theater and Film. They publicly acknowledged their relationship shortly afterward and remained together for approximately 14 years.
Because of the length and stability of their relationship, the couple was often the subject of marriage speculation among fans and the media. Their breakup therefore came as a surprise to many in the Korean entertainment industry.
Born in 1990, Choi Soo-young debuted with Girls’ Generation in 2007 and later established herself as an actress through dramas such as “Run On,” “If You Wish Upon Me,” and “Not Others.” She is scheduled to return to television with the upcoming KBS2 weekend drama.
Born in 1983, Jung Kyung-ho made his acting debut as part of KBS’s 20th class of public talent recruits in 2003. He has since starred in popular dramas including “I’m Sorry, I Love You,” “Prison Playbook,” “Life on Mars,” “Hospital Playlist,” and “Crash Course in Romance.”
Although their romantic relationship has come to an end, both agencies emphasized that Jung Kyung-ho and Choi Soo-young plan to remain on good terms and continue supporting each other as colleagues.
