This Monday, Manchester City and Arsenal FC played in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium in London. Both teams are currently at the top of the Premier League table, with Arsenal being first and Manchester City being second, which makes the final even more exciting and competitive. The match was very important for both teams, as the winning team would get directly qualified for a European competition.
The match started out with a goalless first half, which added pressure to both teams in the locker room at halftime. Although Manchester City had more ball possession in the first half, Arsenal had more shots on target, and they were also more expected to score a goal. Many fans expected that Arsenal would take the trophy home, but they didn’t know what was gonna happen in the second half. In the 60th minute of the game, Manchester City’s player Bernardo Silva goes for a cross inside the penalty area. Arsenal’s goalkeeper attempted to catch the ball, but it slipped out of his hands, giving a big opportunity for Manchester City to score an open goal. City’s player O'Reilly quickly reached out to head the ball into the goal, giving Manchester City a 1-0 lead. Four Minutes after Manchester City’s goal, one of the players on City’s side attempted another cross in the penalty area. The same player who scored the first goal, O’Reilly, goes for another header, and he ends up scoring again, making it 2-0 for Manchester City. As the game kept playing, Manchester City kept their attacking and defending pressure, giving absolutely no chance for Arsenal to score a goal.
In the end, Manchester City won the Carabao Cup final 2-0. This victory showed us that Manchester City is still as strong as they were in the past few years and that they might still have a chance to surpass Arsenal in points and win the Premier League. On the other hand, Arsenal will be very disappointed with their loss and will need to recover quickly if they want to stay at the top of the Premier League.
