Nvidia CEO Says Robotics Could Be South Korea's Next Major Industry

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said that robotics will be South Korea’s next main industry when he arrived for his second visit on Friday. He highlighted that relationships with local companies are becoming closer not only in semiconductors but also in the fields of robotics and AI factories.
South Korea is a major manufacturing power in Asia, producing chips, electronics, cars, and ships. After his arrival, Huang told reporters that semiconductor manufacturing will increasingly be driven by AI and robotics.
"Since Korea is a global manufacturing hub, we can apply the robotics and physical AI technologies we develop here to industry," he said. "Therefore, we have a good opportunity to cooperate with semiconductor companies here."
Huang said that he had scheduled meetings with Hyundai Motor, LG, SK Hynix, Samsung Electronics, and Naver during his trip. In addition, he said, "Did I bring any gifts for Korea? I brought a lot of business for Korea." He also said, "I have some surprises."
The first stop of his trip was an internet cafe in Seoul, where he met with e-sports players, including superstar Lee Sang-hyeok, mainly known as "Faker." He also had Korean barbecue and drinks at a restaurant with LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, and Naver founder Lee Hae-jin.
"Our recent success is only the beginning," Huang said, adding that Nvidia’s new products would use a large amount of memory chips.
Huang stated that Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron have been approved to provide HBM4 memory chips for Nvidia's Vera Rubin AI platform. He added that all three companies are already producing the chips and are competing to support the new system.
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix produce about 70% of the memory chips used in AI systems. Huang acknowledged that memory supply remains limited, making efficient use of memory important for Nvidia's products. He also announced that Nvidia has begun recruiting employees for its new research and development center in Seoul.
